Announcement on Global Call for Design Proposals for the Official Uniforms of Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

The Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (hereinafter referred to as Beijing 2022),

Through its Office of Global Call for Design Proposals for the Official Uniforms of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (hereinafter referred to as Beijing 2022 Office of Uniform Design Evaluation and Selection),

Hereby officially launches a global call for design proposals for the official uniforms of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The designs must embody the Olympic values and the 2022 Games vision, and highlight Beijing’s commitment to delivering a green, inclusive, open and clean Games. They must epitomize China’s history and time-honoured culture and promote unity and solidarity of the Chinese people for greater progress. They must tell China’s success stories in the new era. The details about the call are as follows:

I. Eligibility

The call is open to natural persons, legal persons and other organisations around the world. Any party that is willing to contribute to the designing of the Games uniforms and undertakes of its own free will to comply with all the requirements as stipulated in the documents relating to the call are eligible to take part. They may submit design proposal(s) individually or jointly.

II. When to Submit Design Proposals

Design proposals are accepted as of 9 a.m. Beijing Time on Friday 8 May 2020. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Beijing Time on Wednesday 10 June 2020.

III. Guidelines for Design Proposals

The designs shall cover two sets of uniforms, one for Organising Committee staff and Games technical officials, and the other for Games volunteers. Both will include six categories, namely,

· Functional outdoor sport jacket

· Functional sport pants

· Fleece jacket

· Woven pants

· Knitted hat

· Neck warmer

The submissions shall include design description, flat diagrams of appearance and wearing effect drawings.

The designs must meet the following requirements:

· Convey the Olympic values and the 2022 Games vision,

· Promote China’s positive image and national spirit,

· Reflect the features of our time,

· Showcase China’s fine culture and cutting-edge technologies,

· Be readily identifiable with the Games and winter sports,

· Accommodate flexible combinations for a variety of scenarios and climate conditions, and

· Lend an air of athleticism, youthfulness, grace, and appeal to the wearers.

IV. The Submission and Selection Process

The documents relating to the call can be downloaded from the Beijing 2022 official website at https://www.beijing2022.cn.

The design proposals shall be submitted according to the requirements as indicated in the documents. The interested parties are kindly requested to carefully read and take note of those requirements before submission of their proposals.

After the submission deadline of 10 June 2020, all submissions will be evaluated on the basis of fairness, openness, and impartiality by a panel of experts designated by Beijing 2022. The evaluation will focus on the use of symbols, integrity, originality, expressivity, empathy, extensibility and replicability of the designs.

V. Awards

The first-place winner will receive an award of RMB 100,000 (pre-tax), the second-place winner RMB 80,000 (pre-tax), the third-to-fifth-place winners RMB 20,000 (pre-tax), and the sixth-to-tenth-place winners RMB 10,000 (pre-tax).

If a winning design proposal is authored by two or more designers, the award shall be shared between them by mutual agreement. Beijing 2022 shall not be liable for any dispute arising from the distribution.

Beijing 2022 will update, in a timely manner, information about the submission of design proposals, including change, if any, of the mailing address, on its official website. All parties are kindly requested to visit the website and keep themselves updated.

Beijing 2022 will start its evaluation and selection process as of Thursday 11 June 2020 Beijing time.
