On 8 May 2020, Beijing 2022 launched a global call for design proposals for the visual appearance of uniforms of Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

There will be two sets of visual appearance of Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games uniforms, one for staff and technical officials, and the other for volunteers. Both will include these six categories:

 Outdoor functional sport jacket

 Functional sport pants

 Fleece jacket

 Woven pants

 Knitted hat

 Neck warmer

Submissions are open as of today, Friday 8 May 2020, and will end on Wednesday 10 June 2020 inclusive. The selection process will include format compliance check, screening for eligibility, preliminary assessment by experts, public consultation, modification & improvement of shortlisted designs, final expert review, and approval by the Organising Committee. The final designs will be submitted to the IOC and IPC for review by the end of January 2021. They will be unveiled in the second half of 2021.

The design proposals must be based on the core graphics and colour system of the Beijing 2022 Games. The designs could be an artistic rearrangement or extension of the colours, motifs and patterns featuring in the core graphics. They must be expressive, appealing and create a strong visual impact for the uniforms. Hopefully they will enrich the Games look and image.

The designs must have distinct Chinese features and be eye-catching, functional, and readily identifiable with the Games and winter sports. They must also be adapted to weather conditions in Beijing and Hebei in the period from February to March.

Mr. Yan Cheng, Director General of the Organising Committee’s Human Resources Department, emphasised that the uniform is a key element of the Games look and image and one of the most visible and memorable essentials of the Olympic brand. “The Organising Committee is looking for designs that embody the Olympic values and the 2022 Games vision,” he explained. “The designs must highlight Beijing’s commitment to delivering a green, inclusive, open and clean Games. They must epitomise China’s history and time-honoured culture and help lift the national spirit, encouraging the Chinese people to achieve greater accomplishments. They are expected to serve as a medium to better present China in the new era to the rest of the world.”

The call is open to natural persons, legal persons and other organisations. Any interested party that complies with the requirements may submit design proposals. For full details, please download the relevant documents from the Beijing 2022 official website at https://www.beijing2022.cn.

The top ten designs will be shortlisted, and will each receive an award from Beijing 2022 ranging in pre-tax value from RMB 10,000 to 100,000.

Beijing 2022 cordially invites all who support the Olympic Movement and the Beijing 2022 Games to take part.
