8 May was the 100-day countdown to the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games (Nanjing 2014). The State Council Information Office held a press conference on the preparation for Nanjing 2014 the same morning. While responding to questions from reporters, Xiao Tian, Deputy Director of General Administration of Sport of China, Vice President of Chinese Olympic Committee and Vice President of Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, said that the success of Nanjing 2014 would have consequential impacts on the bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Xiao remarked that the success of Nanjing 2014 would be a strong proof that China successfully host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Xiao acknowledged that the country to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games would depend on the vote at the IOC Session in Malaysia next June.

Currently, there are 106 members in the IOC. The majority of these 106 members will be joining in Nanjing 2014. Therefore, success of Nanjing 2014 has consequential impacts on Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Xiao believed that if China would win the right to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, a spectacular gala would be staged given China’s capacity.
