BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) – The fourth Beijing Ice & Snow Happy Season, a yearly activity aimed to promote winter sports, was launched on Saturday.
In the six-month Happy Season that lasts till April 2018, Beijingers will have the opportunity to watch top international events like the 2017 Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and the 2017 FIS Snowboard Big Air World Cup, according to the organizer, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports.
Nearly 30 citywide winter sports events including the 2017 Beijing Ice Hockey Youth League, and about 70 ice and snow activities across all the districts of Beijing will be held, it said.
The bureau will organize 120 skating and 40 skiing classes for people to experience the joy of winter sports, with no charge. Free activities will also be held for low-income families, children of migrant workers, and children with hearing disabilities.
People are encouraged to use social media tools to share their photos, blogs and videos to help promote winter sports, it said.
It estimated that more than 4.5 million people will be involved in the 2017 Happy Season.
