ABU DHABI, September 5, 2017 – Beijing 2022 on Tuesday told the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) that preparations for the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games are going forward smoothly.
The 2022 Paralympic Winter Games will be as “fantastic, extraordinary and excellent” as the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Vice President of Beijing 2022 Lu Yong assured the delegates from 148 NPCs and 19 international federations on sports for persons with disabilities.
“Preparations for both (Olympic and Paralympic) Winter Games are going forward simultaneously. We’ll make sure both Games will be equally successful,” said Lu, also Board Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF).
“We’ll do our best to promote winter sports among disabled people, and promote social equality and inclusiveness in the lead-up to Beijing 2022,” he said.
Beijing is well on track to once again deliver a successful Paralympics, said Rita van Driel, an IPC Governing Board member from the Netherlands and a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for Beijing 2022.
"Beijing showed in 2008 that it was able to deliver an excellent Paralympic Games with a great legacy for people with impairments. Building on that experience, I believe it will deliver another extraordinary Paralympic Games in winter as well," she said.
