BEIJING, April 21, 2017 (Beijing Daily) – Skating in summer has become a reality for school students in Beijing thanks to the use of synthetic ice rinks.
Dozens of students were seen practicing skating Thursday on a synthetic ice rink at the Middle School Affiliated to the Beijing International Studies University. Wearing ice skates and helmets, the students learned for the first time how to skate.
The students also had a taste of sliding stones in a synthetic curling sheet under the supervision of a professional coach. They were also taught safety measures to protect themselves when engaging in winter sports.
Beijing’s education and sports authorities are building more and more synthetic rinks to facilitate students’ practice in skating all year round, an endeavor to promote winter sports in the lead-up to Beijing 2022.
Synthetic rinks, made from high-tech materials, give skaters real-ice experiences and make skating available any time throughout the year.
