SHENYANG, Liaoning Province, March 21 (China Sports Daily) – The General Administration of Sport of China organized a national test last weekend to select talents for cross-country skiing.
A total of 191 athletes of different sports from 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions took part in the test that was conducted in Shenyang, capital city of China’s northeast province of Liaoning, on Saturday and Sunday.
“The candidate athletes not only come from China’s cold northeast, but also Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan and Hainan provinces in the warm south,” said Liu Chengliang, deputy director of the Winter Sports Administration Centre.
China has promised to host a fantastic, extraordinary and excellent Olympic Winter Games in 2022. Chinese athletes shoulder the responsibility of winning glory for the nation on the home soil, he said.
“We want to select young talents aged between 15 and 17 from some summer Olympic sports including athletics, cycling, rowing, wushu (martial arts), wrestling and kick boxing,” he said.
“The candidate athletes underwent preliminary tests in their own provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions before coming to Shenyang. We particularly hope to find some good candidates from the five ethnic autonomous regions in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Tibet, Guangxi and Ningxia,” he added.
