RIO DE JANEIRO, August 5, 2016 (Beijing 2022) – The Organising Committee on the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games on Thursday reported to the International Olympic Committee about Beijing 2022’s ongoing preparations.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to the preparations for the 2022 winter Olympics. Chinese President Xi Jinping has repeatedly called for an“extraordinary, fantastic and excellent”2022 Olympics, and Beijing 2022’s preparations are progressing in a “green, shared, open and clean”manner, Zhang Jiandong, the vice executive president of Beijing 2022, told the IOC.
The 2022 Olympics is part of China’s national development strategy. Beijing 2022 will strengthen cooperation with the IOC in the next six years in line with Olympic Agenda 2020, he said at the 129th IOC session.
In the build-up to the 2022 Olympics, China will encourage as many as 300 million people to engage in winter sports, accelerate regional sustainable growth, and set up a win-win model for the Olympic Movement and urban development, Zhang said.
Alexander Zhukov, the chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission on the 2022 winter Olympics, spoke highly of Beijing 2022’s progress made so far.
Preparations in all aspects are going well according to plans, Zhukov said, adding that the IOC will cooperate with Beijing 2022 closely, especially in venue planning and construction, human resources and sustainability.
